The Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger flavissimus) is one of the most striking and recognizable butterflyfish in the saltwater hobby. Brilliant lemon-yellow body, jet-black eye band and crown, crisp white face, and a distinctive elongated snout built like a pair of tweezers — pure elegance with a purpose.
That long snout is more than just looks. Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish use it to pluck small invertebrates, polychaete worms, and crustacean larvae from tight crevices in live rock that other fish can't reach. They're active swimmers, peaceful with most tankmates, and surprisingly hardy compared to many other butterflyfish species — often acclimating to frozen foods more readily than their Copperband cousins.
Reef caution: While more reef-tolerant than most butterflies, Yellow Longnose may nip at tube worms, clam mantles, anemones, and occasionally polyps. Best suited for FOWLR systems or mature reefs where the keeper accepts the risk with prized invertebrates.
Reasonably hardy with proper acclimation, but still considered intermediate to advanced due to feeding preferences. Best for established systems with experienced keepers.
At Ocean To You, every fish is quarantined and observed eating before sale. We don't sell sick fish.
