At Ocean To You Aquariums, every fish goes through our comprehensive quarantine and treatment protocol before it's available for sale. We don't cut corners — because one sick fish can wipe out your entire tank. This is not a typical fish store process. It's closer to what you'd find in a professional aquaculture facility, and it's why our fish live.
We Medicate Past Ich and Velvet — Because Copper Doesn't Cure Everything
Most stores that quarantine at all run copper, treat for Ich and Marine Velvet, and call it done. But Ich and Velvet are not the only deadly diseases in this hobby — and copper doesn't touch some of the worst of them: the fast-moving parasites behind so many "mystery" deaths in the first days after purchase, skin and gill infections, flukes, and the internal parasites and bacterial issues you can't see from outside the bag. If your fish store stops at copper, those are still coming home with you. Our treatment protocol goes further — and it's why our fish live.
Our Process
1. Arrival Dip — Every Fish, Every Shipment Every incoming fish receives a therapeutic dip on arrival to knock down external parasites before it ever touches our systems. No exceptions.
2. Medicated Holding Systems Our fish don't sit in plain saltwater. Every holding system runs a proprietary, professionally managed treatment regimen — multiple therapeutic approaches matched to the species in each system — targeting the full spectrum of marine disease, external and internal. Not just the ones copper can reach.
3. Medicated Feeding All fish are fed a medicated food blend daily to treat internal parasites and bacterial issues that water treatment alone can't reach — while we confirm every fish is actively eating.
4. Microscope-Confirmed Diagnostics We don't guess. Our team uses microscopy to identify parasites and pathogens at the source, so treatment targets what's actually present — not what it looks like from the outside.
5. Mortality Logging & Root-Cause Review Every loss in our store is logged, investigated, and traced to a cause — and our protocol is corrected so it doesn't repeat. Most stores accept losses as the cost of business. We treat every one as data.
6. Cleared for Sale — Or Not Sold A fish reaches our sales floor only when it shows zero signs of disease or bacterial infection AND is eating well. We do not sell fish that aren't eating, are lethargic, or show any symptoms — period. If a fish isn't right, it stays with us until it is.
WHY IT MATTERS: Most fish deaths happen within the first two weeks — usually from diseases they were carrying when purchased. Our quarantine process gives your new fish the best chance at a long, healthy life in your tank, and protects every fish already in it.
