Why it is a Collector's Vault fish: Known in Japan as Tosayakko, the Japanese Swallowtail lives in deeper, cooler water off Japan, the Philippines and the Chinese coast, and has been recorded as deep as 650 feet. In the wild one male guards a harem of females, so large, fully colored males are far less common than females. Males are bigger and more intensely patterned, reaching nearly 8 inches.
