The Neon Blue Stripe Hermit Crab (Calcinus elegans) is one of the most visually striking hermit crabs in the saltwater hobby. Jet-black legs accented with brilliant electric blue stripes and bright orange antennae make this little crab a moving piece of art on your sand bed and rockwork — pure neon eye candy.
Beyond the looks, Neon Blue Stripe Hermits are excellent members of the clean-up crew. They scavenge for uneaten food, graze on algae and detritus, and constantly explore the tank looking for their next meal. Watching them swap shells as they grow is part of the fun.
Reef safe with caution: Like all hermit crabs, they may occasionally attack small snails to claim their shells. Provide a variety of empty shells slightly larger than their current ones to prevent this — happy hermits leave snails alone.
