This is a true WYSIWYG Rainbow Acanthophyllia (Acanthophyllia deshayesiana) — the exact 7" show-size specimen pictured is the coral you'll receive. Acanthophyllia of this size and color grade are exceptionally rare in the trade. Most Acan pieces sold retail in the 3 to 5 inch range, making a fully expanded 7" Rainbow grade specimen a true collector and centerpiece-grade piece.
The Rainbow color grade is reserved for Acanthophyllia displaying multiple distinct color zones across a single polyp — this piece showcases a stunning combination of electric blue/teal central septa, vivid sunset-orange and red ridges, and deep contrasting purple-black grooves between the folds. The radial septa pattern radiates outward from the center mouth like a starburst, creating one of the most visually dynamic single-polyp corals available in the hobby. Under blue-heavy reef spectrum lighting, every color pops with neon intensity.
Acanthophyllia are slow-growing but extremely hardy LPS corals that thrive on the sand bed under low to moderate lighting and gentle indirect flow. They are heavy feeders — spot feed two to three times per week with mysis, reef roids, chunks of silverside, or small pellets to maintain their dramatic flesh expansion and color saturation. Allow at least 4 to 6 inches of clearance from neighboring corals, as Acanthophyllia can extend feeder tentacles at night that may sting nearby pieces.
At Ocean To You, every coral is hand-selected, dipped, and observed before sale.
