The Eibli Angelfish (Centropyge eibli) — also known as the Red Stripe Angelfish, Blacktail Angelfish, or Eibl's Dwarf Angel — is a refined and understated member of the dwarf angelfish family. Its soft silver-gray body is accented with delicate vertical orange pinstripes, a vivid orange ring around the eye, and a bold black tail edged in electric blue. Unlike the flashier members of the Centropyge genus, the Eibli wins admirers with subtlety and grace, making it a favorite of hobbyists who appreciate quieter beauty.
Native to the eastern Indian Ocean, this species is found along outer reef slopes where it grazes on microalgae, detritus, and small invertebrates. Interestingly, juvenile Eibli Angels are believed to mimic the Mimic Lemonpeel Tang (Acanthurus pyroferus) — or rather, the tang mimics them — gaining mutual protection through shared coloration. In the home aquarium, Eiblis are active, alert, and constantly grazing, providing both visual interest and natural algae control on mature live rock.
Like all dwarf angels, the Eibli is classified as reef safe with caution. While many specimens coexist peacefully with corals, individual behavior varies — some will nip at LPS, zoanthids, or clam mantles, especially if underfed. To minimize risk, keep them well-fed with a varied diet of dried marine algae (nori), spirulina-enriched flake, herbivore pellets, mysis, and angelfish-specific frozen formulas. Provide a minimum of 70 gallons with abundant live rock for grazing and hiding, and house only one dwarf angel per system unless the tank is very large.
At Ocean To You, every fish is quarantined and observed before sale. We don't sell sick fish.
